Scroll through any Nuce Loom product page and you'll see fabric names doing a lot of quiet work — dupion silk, chanderi silk, habutai silk, jam satin. Each behaves differently, drapes differently, and suits different occasions. Here's what actually separates them.
Dupion Silk
Woven from two different colored yarns, dupion silk has a naturally slubbed, textured surface and a subtle sheen — no two lengths of fabric look quite identical. It holds structure well, which makes it a favorite for sharara sets and fitted kurta silhouettes that need to hold their shape through movement.
Feel: crisp, structured, slightly textured. Best for: wedding ceremonies, sharara sets, structured kurta sets.
Chanderi Silk
Named for the town of Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh where it originates, this fabric is woven with silk and fine cotton or zari thread, giving it a signature sheer, lightweight quality with a subtle glossy texture. It's breathable and drapes softly rather than holding a rigid shape.
Feel: lightweight, sheer, softly draping. Best for: warmer climates, daytime festive events, pieces that need to move easily.
Habutai Silk
A smooth, plain-weave silk with a soft, almost liquid drape and a gentle natural sheen. Habutai is lighter and more fluid than dupion, without the sheerness of chanderi — it sits closer to the body and moves with it.
Feel: smooth, fluid, soft sheen. Best for: flowing kurta silhouettes, pieces meant to feel effortless rather than structured.
Jam Satin
A silk-blend satin with a lustrous, diffused glow rather than a high shine — refined and understated instead of overtly glossy. It takes ombré dyeing especially well, which is why you'll see it used in pieces designed around color transitions.
Feel: soft glow, smooth surface. Best for: evening pieces, ombré designs, cocktail-hour silhouettes.
